3 Interior Designers Transform The Same Bedroom | Space Savers | Architectural Digest

Updated: Jun 24

We gave interior designers Lula Galeano, Laura Hodges, and Alvin Wayne a photo of the same spacious bedroom - then asked each of them to create a design for it in their style, however they pleased. Three artists, one canvas, each bringing something different to the space. See which designer comes closest to creating the bedroom you see in your dreams. (Architectural Digest)

Bya: I love to watch how other designers approach designing the same space differently, and that is why I am sharing this video in my website with my followers:

My unknown to make any sort of comment on these 3 designers' choice of layout, style and furnishings is the fact that there is no background rules for these 3 designers, i.e. I don’t know what the designers’ brief was rather than “create a design for it in your style” direction. For Example, how much are they able to change regarding permanent fixtures given to them on the proposed bedroom drawing.

One of the designers suggested to sunk the floor and to add a lot of more windows, which, if not a new build, if this room was in fact ready for decorating, it is not possible. I don’t know about the style of the entire residence so that I would know how to add to the existing and not create something that does not go together with the remaining décor. And finally, a determining factor to even start designing a space for me besides, the style, and the budget, it is whom I am designing for. It is key to design with a property buyer in mind, a developer desired style in mind or a real client needs in mind. No designer can satisfy a design style need in a vacuum. Knowing whom you are designing for, is for me, the key to a successful design project.

Having said all of that… I like Alvin’s design best because I think his room aesthetics is fresh without being too out there trendy or like Lula’s – too hotel like and perhaps a bit difficult maintenance wise for an everyday bedroom. Laura’s was very predictable, so to me Alvin’s accommodates for most of the unknowns I mentioned above yet interesting. I love what he has put together, and I feel it would fit in to several interior styles and cater to the tastes of most clients.
